What were the main influences for the design of the game? How did we get the inspiration?

For Retro Race's design our major design influence came from Asian cities. We took examples mostly from modern Japanese architecture. We wanted to make the game's environment similar to the streets of Tokyo to give a Neo Tokyo and Akira touch to it by mixing really modern and futuristic buildings mixed with with more traditional and common Japanese buildings. Mixing synth wave and Japanese culture would give us a great concept which was our main goal for the visuals in the game. We mainly got the inspiration for our designs from Japanese animations and video games such are Cyberpunk and Distance and which would portrait the modernity that we were looking for and matched well with the synth wave environment. Once the environment design was put in place, we would work on UI designs to match to not only with the car but with the whole environment. We went through a lot of researches and looked at a lot of references until we found one specific design that was to our taste then implement them into our game.
